Visit to Rihula

Thanks to the newly created business cards and website, we received a very exciting e-mail last fall, shortly after our trip to Estonia. In it, Krista from Estonia introduced us to the Rihula farm, which belongs to her family. The former foresters’ lodge and its outbuildings have been empty for several years now and you can see that in the farm buildings. She therefore wondered what could happen to the farm in the future. She has already considered making the site available to hikers or planting a fruit tree meadow and was very interested in our idea of a community project. We were delighted to receive her email and were immediately fascinated by this place and its history. After sending a few emails and photos and a joint video call, we were able to meet her in Rihula at the beginning of January.

The farm from the main street

The four of us (Anna, Lionel, Lola and an Estonian friend) drove in beautiful sunny winter weather to the old foresters’ lodge where we had arranged to meet. Luckily, the road to the farm had been cleared from snow and led us through a beautiful forest where flying squirrels are said to live. First we had a look at the main house, which consists of four rooms arranged around the stove in the middle of the house.

The farm complex also includes a barn and a stable, which we also had a look into and took a few photos there. Of course, we also looked in the sauna, which is just a few meters from the river. The property also includes a large meadow and some large trees. Drinking warming tea and eating cookies, we were able to exchange ideas and share our thoughts before we made our way back.

All in all, we had a very nice meeting at the farm. We received a lot more exciting information and our first, very positive impression was confirmed.
