Start of the second half

We use the first days after the big party to reorganize ourselves as a group. There were a few arrivals and departures, we had to hand over the construction sites and kitchen planning and settle in. Nevertheless, a lot of progress is being made, both in the main house and in the barn as well as in the green area. A new task has also been added: Making sure that our newly arrived dog Motte doesn’t lick the food out of the pots.

Regarding the main house, we are continuing where we left off. The damp plaster is to be removed from the walls and the partly moldy ceiling paneling taken down. Bettina, Julian, Jorge and Vera work their way through the rooms where this has not yet been done and we have to make sure that we save our tool store from the dust that is stirred up in the process. The unplastered and uncovered walls and ceiling should be completely dry by next year. On Tuesday at the end of the day, the dust clears up because all the rooms are finished except for our little tool store.

Opposite the main house, we finally begin to repair the hole in the barn roof. In order to do so, the scaffolding first has to be moved from the main house to the barn, before Tobias and Jakob can start to remove the old roof covering so that the full extent of the damage becomes visible. A larger construction site awaits us here, which we will certainly report on later.

Directly in front of the barn, (the other) Tobias has set up his mobile carpentry workshop, where he is making reusable shutters from boards from the collapsed shed which we will use to winterize the main house. Practical, as we have long since used the boards that were previously used to nail up the windows for other purposes.

In the green area - you could almost call it the garden - the work continues almost seamlessly. Rüdiger spends several days working his way through a wild apple tree, removing all the dead wood and giving it a new cut, while Lukas, Melissa and Vera trim the next hedge made from dead wood. A beautiful larch tree at the entrance to the courtyard is also cleared of dead wood and brought into shape, while a few meters away the recently felled spruce trees are peeled and stored.

Last but not least, we also work in the kitchen - but with pen and paper. Our kitchen chef Janne has left, so Vera and Melissa take over the kitchen planning for the next few days. We’re excited to see what happens next, say thank you for the outstanding cuisine of the last few weeks and see you soon!
